Click2Speak: From personal experience to AAC product, writing software using only your eyes
In this paper, we present the amazing journey of Gal Sont, the driving force behind this inspiring project. Gal, diagnosed with ALS in 2009, writes and develops our software, known as Click2Speak using only his eyes, based on his own experience of dealing with the progression of the disease and its changing needs. We have learned that some users are inspired by Gal’s achievements, and as a result are empowered and motivated to try our solution, in order to improve the quality of their lives. Gal’s story has untapped potential to raise awareness and motivate, and we will discuss how this helps bridging the gaps between patients and professionals.
We will present Click2Speak - an innovative on-screen keyboard, powered by Swiftkey’s technology, catering to people with special needs who cannot use a standard keyboard, - enabling communication and access to PC/tablet/household applications.
The development of click2speak is the result of collaboration with the professional staff of the Ezer-Mizion National SGD Lending Center, enabling ongoing feedback from users who borrow the AAC systems from the Centre.
Click2Speak and Ezer Mizion have collaborated in order to provide an affordable, user friendly, plug-and-play solution for users throughout the world to communicate easily with a variety of alternative pointing devices, in a variety of languages.
We will discuss the challenges in developing, testing and implementing the keyboard and how we use the Israeli ‘market’ to improve it.
