Integrating a Person Who Uses AAC into University Employment

Content: The following presentation is a reflection of a university professor and a man who uses AAC on their partnership in teaching a graduate course in AAC, and finding an expanded and continuing educational role long-term within the university.
Focus: Avenues and funding challenges relative to hiring an individual who uses AAC on a more permanent basis will be outlined and explored in a group discussion with participants. The benefits and challenges of collaboratively implementing the course as well as recommendations for replicating the model will be discussed. In addition, the need to involve consumers in personnel preparation is also addressed.
