I had a stroke at the age of 12 (I am now 47 years old). As a result of the stroke I lost the total use of my right side. Therefore, I use a powered wheelchair. The stroke also left me unable to speak. Luckily, the stroke had no effect on my hearing. After my stroke I communicated with my family via the letters of the alphabet on a wooden board my father and brother made for me.
