Indian Institute of Cerebral Palsy (IICP) is a leading national, non-governmental organization (NGO) recognized by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, and a specialist resource centre for cerebral palsy with 32 years of experience in service delivery, research and training. The Institute works in collaboration with a university of national repute to provide training recognized by the Government of India and has strong international linkages for collaborative research projects and training. An active member of the International Society for Alternative and Augmentative Communication (ISAAC), IICP has played a major role in introducing AAC in India. The belief that communication is a basic human right led IICP to explore avenues for the development of assistive technology (AT) in India.

 

The National Resource Centre for AAC

The Centre aims to maintain, display and demonstrate all the AAC and ICT resources available for users, parents, trainees and professionals. Members of the advocates for AAC group (A3C group) are actively involved in the activities.

3. Indian Picture Symbols for Communication

A software to navigate a library 1960 culturally and linguistically relevant picture symbols in colours and replicating them to make communication displays has been developed. Text can be incorporated in any language if a font for the same is available in the computer. It is available in a kit including an animated demonstration package, an instruction manual with some sample displays.
