Safety and abuse prevention for adults and youth who use augmentative and alternative communication.

Approx. 1 printed page

Pointing It Out is about safety and abuse prevention for adults and youth who use augmentative and alternative communication. It is primarily intended for people who use AAC, and will also be useful for parents, teachers, clinicians, attendants and anyone in health, social, legal and community services.

Through the positive and proactive approach contained in the DVD and a booklet (available on an audio CD) Pointing It Out offers a basis for discussion relating to the prevention of abuse that may be experienced by people who use augmentative communication.

Pointing It Out presents the experiences and views of eight people who use augmentative communication as they discuss Human Rights, relationships, attendant services, self esteem, communication, access to community services and strategies regarding personal safety. Each contributor is to be congratulated for the valuable information they express.

Through this publication, developed by Augmentative Communication Community Partnerships-Canada, Barbara Collier and her eight partners have provided a resource that helps people who rely on augmentative communication to increase their safety, manage their daily living and maintain their personal dignity.
