One of the projects of Equip K.I.D.S. International, is to promote and implement augmentative and alternative communication programs in South America and other areas. The organization has implemented the first comprehensive AAC program in Peru at the Hogar Clinica San Juan de Dios in Cusco. This pediatric rehabilitation centre is home to over 40 children, the majority of which have severe speech difficulties. Equipkids provides free AAC services to these children and similar services to children from the community.
Equip K.I.D.S. is sponsoring the third of our bi-annual conference promoting AAC in South and Latin America. The conference will be held in Cusco, Aug 21st – 25th 2007. It will take place in the enchanting city of Cusco, Peru and will feature AAC courses presented by North and South American professionals, as well as presentations and posters from around Peru and the region. One or more adult-AAC users will offer their perspectives on the importance and use of AAC in everyday life. Conference information is available in English and Spanish.
